He is Risen Indeed
On Easter we say, “He is risen…He is risen indeed!” We proclaim this because the resurrection of Jesus Christ is at the very heart of all we believe as His people. Here are four important things to remember about why this Sunday is so special to us and what it means for us in Jesus Christ.
1. Because Christ has risen from the dead, we are saved from the power of sin and death. Though we still wrestle with sin in this age, Christ has freed us from sin’s bondage and from its ultimate consequence: spiritual death.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57 – “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Because Christ has risen from the dead, we are welcomed into a new kind of family. Our faith in Jesus Christ as our Risen Savior and Lord unites us together as a royal family—sons and daughters of the King of Kings!
John 1:12 – Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
3. Because Christ has risen from the dead, we are His ambassadors, sent out with the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Every disciple is sent to share His Good News to the ends of the earth among all creation!
1 Corinthians 5:20a – We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us…
4. Because Christ has risen from the dead, we have a glorious future. We can be confident that God’s promises for us are true: that all who trust in Christ will live forever with God.
Isaiah 25:8 – “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces.”
